And yet prÄį¹ÄyÄma is a very subtle tool, one that directs the experience of a practitioner so profoundly, that mis-application can have strongly negative effects on a practitioner because breathing is so foundational to life that the body regulates it very closely.
This means that not all breathing practices are acceptable to all practitioners. There are very clear limitations in what different people can do. With prÄį¹ÄyÄma, it is especially important to accurately assess the extent of breathing the person is capable of and to know the next step in their development.
Advanced Viniyoga Applications: PrÄį¹ÄyÄma - Breathing in Viniyoga is a 15-month extensive exploration into the power and purpose of PrÄnÄyÄma in our practice.Ā

What You Will Explore
This immersive program will cover all yoga related breathing techniques and principles. From yoga therapy applications to the most advanced yoga breathing techniques, like bandhas, nauli & long retention. You and your cohort, under the guidance of Chase Bossart, will explore everything from the mechanics of breathing and how and what to emphasize at each stage, to the progression of breathing as a kriya (cleansing technique),Ā Ā
The curriculum of this program is designed to placeĀ PrÄį¹ÄyÄma in its appropriate context so that its power can be appropriately applied, which makes the studentās desired outcome tangible.Ā
At the same time, all students enrolled in the program will have the opportunity to work with a personal mentor, one-to-one, on their daily practice so the informational becomes experiential. (Mentorship fees are not included in the tuition of the program)Ā
Faculty: Chase Bossart
Executive Director of the Yoga Well Institute, Chase has been studying Yoga, Sanskrit, eastern philosophy, and religion for nearly 30 years.
In 1991, as part of a study abroad program in Chennai, India, Chase took a semester-long course on Yoga Theory with Mr. TKV Desikachar that essentially set the direction for the rest of his life. He became a private student of Mr. Desikachar, who was his mentor and teacher for 20+ years. During that time, he spent a total of four and a half years in Chennai studying with him, his family, and his senior teachers. He also had the opportunity to serve as a teacher at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram. From 2006-2012, he was the Director of Therapy and Education at the non-profit Healing Yoga Foundation in San Francisco.
His depth of knowledge on yoga and meditation is shared through practical, humorous anecdotes that translate to everyday life.
